A Senior District Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has issued an order on Thursday restraining Aliyu Bello, the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), from presenting himself as a party member or performing any duties as chairman.
This injunction will remain in effect pending the resolution of a lawsuit filed against him by fellow party members.
Ibrahim Iliyasu, the APC chairman of Gayam Ward in Lafia Local Government Area, initiated the legal action against Bello.
Iliyasu took this step after Bello allegedly refused to step down from his position following a suspension by the ward’s executive members over alleged anti-party activities.

According to court documents, the case, with motion number SDC3/M1122/2025, is being heard by Justice Abdullahi M. Lanze.
The court order, dated July 3, 2025, specifically prohibits Bello, his agents, supporters, or anyone acting on his behalf from “further parading himself, issuing statements, carrying out functions or acting in any manner whatsoever, through media or otherwise, as a member or chairman of All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
It is recalled that on Tuesday, leaders of the APC in Gayam Ward, led by Ibrahim Iliyasu, publicly announced Bello’s suspension in Lafia.
They cited his alleged anti-party activities, claiming that his actions had embarrassed the party and undermined their collective efforts to advance its interests.
Iliyasu stated, “We, the undersigned executive members of the All Progressives Congress, Gayam Ward in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, hereby write to formally suspend you, Hon. Aliyu Bello, from the party (All Progressives Congress) with immediate effect.”
He explained that this decision stemmed from an investigation into complaints from ward members, which revealed conduct contrary to Article 21 of the APC Constitution.
However, on Wednesday, a different group of executive members from the same ward, led by Assistant Secretary Adamu Bawa, publicly distanced themselves from Bello’s suspension. Bawa claimed that Iliyasu’s group acted without proper consultation, a valid quorum, or the consent of the full Gayam Ward Executive Committee.
