Ex-Super Eagles Winger Okwuchukwu Waobikeze Is Dead

Okwuchukwu ‘Allen’ Waobikeze, a former Super Eagles winger known for his captivating left-footed play, has died.

His passing comes just days after that of ex-Super Eagles captain and goalkeeper, Peter Rufai.

Affectionately called ‘Babaoo’ by fans and associates, Waobikeze was celebrated for his powerful left foot and exceptional ball control.

Although he made limited appearances for the Super Eagles due to intense squad competition, he left a significant legacy in Nigerian domestic football, having played for prominent clubs such as Sharks FC of Port Harcourt, BCC Lions of Gboko, and Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland FC).

His brother, Eli Waobikeze, confirmed Allen’s death on Monday via a statement shared on his Facebook account.

“On behalf of the Waobikeze family, I would like to announce the peaceful passing to eternal glory of my brother Allen Okwuchukwu Waobikeze. He transitioned at about 7:34 pm CST.

“We appreciate everyone who prayed, called, and visited my brother Okwuchukwu Waobikeze. Every funeral arrangement will be posted.

“Please keep our family in your prayers at this time as we plan to send forth our beloved brother. God bless you all,” he wrote.
