North West Governors Declare Public Holiday To Honour Buhari

The North-West Governors’ Forum has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday across all states in the region to honor former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in a United Kingdom hospital.

In a statement signed by the Forum’s Chairman and Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda, the governors expressed profound shock and sorrow over the statesman’s death.

Radda described Buhari as a “father, leader, and the pride of the Northwest region,” highlighting his life of “service, integrity, and sacrifice for the betterment of Nigeria.”

This public holiday, observed throughout the North-West, is a testament to the deep respect held for a leader who dedicated his life to Nigeria and humanity.

The statement also confirmed that the late former President’s remains are expected to arrive in Katsina by noon on Tuesday, with the burial ceremony scheduled for 2 PM on the same day.

Governor Radda urged all Nigerians to join in prayers for Buhari’s peaceful repose and extended the Forum’s condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the deceased’s family, the government and people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians.

The statement concluded with a prayer for Allah (SWT) to grant him Aljanah Firdaus and provide strength to those grieving this irreparable loss.
