The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari is being transported to his hometown of Daura for state funeral rites and burial on Tuesday afternoon.
After a military parade held in his honour at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina, the late President’s remains were taken by road to Daura, located in northern Katsina State.
The body had arrived at the Katsina airport around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, flown in from London, where Buhari passed away on Sunday, July 13, at the age of 82 after a brief illness.

His casket was received with solemn military honours, as high-ranking government officials, family members, and dignitaries gathered on the tarmac to pay their final respects.
Vice President Kashim Shettima led the federal delegation from the United Kingdom, following instructions from President Bola Tinubu.
President Tinubu had earlier landed in Katsina to personally receive Buhari’s remains.

He was welcomed by Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda and other top officials. First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu is also in the state to take part in the final ceremonies.
Buhari, who led Nigeria as military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and as a civilian president from 2015 to 2023, will be buried in Daura according to Islamic traditions.
A large turnout of mourners — including political figures, traditional rulers, foreign dignitaries, and ordinary citizens — is expected at the burial of the man widely known by the nickname “Mai Gaskiya,” meaning “The Honest One.”
