Vice President Kashim Shettima, accompanied by Governors Dikko Radda of Katsina State and Babagana Zulum of Borno State, led a multitude of mourners to Daura on Wednesday for the Fidau prayer in honor of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Numerous prominent figures also attended the prayer, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Other notable attendees included former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari, NDLEA Director General Buba Marwa, Emir of Daura HRH Faruk Umar Faruk, former Army Chief of Staff Yusuf Tukur Buratai, former Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, former Minister of Communication and Digital Economy Aliyu Isah Pantami, Senator Abdul Aziz Yar’adua, former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika, former NIA Director General Ahmad Rufa’i, and Katsina State Deputy Governor Faruk Jobe.

Religious and traditional leaders were also present to conduct the prayers.
The event, which began around 12:34 PM and was led by Imam Yazid, featured recitations from the Holy Qur’an, prayers, and acts of charity performed on behalf of the deceased.
The gathering collectively prayed to God Almighty for the late former president’s eternal rest and admission into Aljanna Firdausi.
Additionally, prayers were offered for the restoration of peace in Nigeria, a reduction in food prices to affordable levels for ordinary citizens, and divine guidance for Nigerian leaders.
Buhari, who passed away in a London hospital on Sunday, was buried in Daura on Tuesday, with President Bola Tinubu in attendance.
The Fidau prayer, also known as “Fidyah,” is an Islamic practice involving prayers and charitable acts performed on behalf of the deceased.
While traditionally observed on specific days such as the 3rd, 8th, 40th, or 100th day, or annually, Muslims can choose any suitable day for these observances.
Its primary purpose is for relatives and friends to seek forgiveness for the deceased’s sins, ask for Allah’s mercy and blessings, and ensure they continue to benefit through ongoing prayers and good deeds, ultimately seeking their place in paradise (Jannah).
