Chinese President Xi Jinping Reacts To Buhari’s Death

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday extended his condolences to President Bola Tinubu following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

On behalf of the Chinese government and its people, Xi “expressed deep condolences and extended sincere sympathy to the family of Buhari, and the Nigerian government and people,” according to local news medium Xinhua.

Xi praised Buhari as “an important leader of Nigeria,” noting that he “dedicated himself to exploring a development path suited to his country’s national conditions.”

The Chinese President further commended Buhari’s efforts in promoting national unity and progress, as well as his notable standing in the international community.

Buhari was also recognized for his commitment to strengthening ties with China and fostering broader China-Africa cooperation.

Xi remarked that Buhari’s passing is a great loss for both Nigeria and the Chinese people, who regarded him as a cherished friend.

Reaffirming China’s commitment to deepening its strategic partnership with Nigeria, President Xi expressed hope for continued cooperation between the two nations.

Buhari, who passed away at 82 on Sunday, served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023.
