Former Ebonyi PDP Chairman Resigns From Party, Defects To ADC

Silas Onu, a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State and the party’s senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South Zone in the February 4, 2024, rerun election, has resigned his membership from the PDP.

He has now aligned himself with the newly formed African Democratic Congress (ADC), adopted by a coalition of opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a resignation letter he signed on Wednesday, addressed to his Obiozara Ward chairman and obtained by a correspondent on Thursday, Onu, who previously served as the PDP’s State Publicity Secretary and State Chairman in Ebonyi, urged his supporters to follow him to the ADC for a more promising political future.

He explained that his departure was necessitated by the “meddlesomeness of a few sitting governors” in the party’s affairs.

His letter stated: “It’s with a heart, yet for a more patriotic reason, I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect… Due to some irreconcilable differences, especially the role being played by a few sitting governors of the party, I am compelled to pursue my political aspirations from a different, but stable platform.”

Onu concluded by thanking PDP members for their support and expressed hope that they would join him in the ADC to build a strong political movement for the benefit of their people.
