List Of States To Experience Three-Day Thunderstorms, Rain From Friday To Sunday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted widespread thundery and rainy weather conditions across Nigeria from Friday, July 18, to Sunday, July 20, 2025.

According to NiMet’s weather outlook released on Thursday:

Friday, July 18:

  • Northern Region: Thunderstorms are expected, with light to moderate rains in parts of Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, Bauchi, and Gombe states in the early morning. The rest of the region will see sunny skies with some cloud patches. Afternoon/evening hours will bring thunderstorms with moderate rains over parts of Adamawa, Yobe, Sokoto, Zamfara, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, and Taraba states.
  • Central Region: Expect sunny skies with cloud patches and a chance of light morning rains over parts of Plateau and Nasarawa states. Light rains are anticipated later in the day over parts of Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, and Benue states.
  • Southern Region: Cloudy skies are predicted, with morning light rains possible over parts of Imo, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. Light rains are also expected in the afternoon/evening over parts of Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Edo, Anambra, Enugu, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.

Saturday, July 19:

  • Northern Region: Sunny skies with cloud patches are expected throughout the morning. Thunderstorms with moderate rains are forecast for the afternoon/evening in parts of Adamawa, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Yobe, Taraba, Kaduna, and Bauchi states.
  • Central Region: Morning light rains are anticipated over parts of the FCT, Plateau, and Benue states. Light rains will continue into the afternoon/evening over parts of Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa, and the FCT.
  • Southern Region: Cloudy skies are expected, with chances of morning light rains over parts of Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. Light rains are also anticipated during the afternoon/evening over parts of Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Enugu, Ondo, Edo, Cross River, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa states.

Sunday, July 20:

  • Northern Region: Sunny skies with cloud patches are expected. Thunderstorms are predicted over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, and Kebbi states during the morning, with moderate rains expected across the region in the afternoon/evening.
  • Central Region: Morning light rains are expected over parts of Nasarawa, Niger, the FCT, Kogi, Benue, and Kwara states. Light to moderate rains are forecast for the afternoon/evening over parts of the FCT, Nasarawa, Plateau, Niger, Kogi, and Benue states.
  • Southern Region: Sunny skies are generally expected with patches of clouds. Light to moderate rains are predicted over parts of Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Ondo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa states in the morning, and over parts of Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Enugu, Ondo, Edo, Rivers, Cross River, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa states in the afternoon/evening.

NiMet advises the public to take adequate precautions, as strong winds may precede thunderstorms.

It urges fastening loose objects, avoiding driving in heavy rain, disconnecting electrical appliances, and staying away from tall trees.

Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective planning, and residents are encouraged to stay informed through regular weather updates.
