PDP Invites Jonathan To Run Again In 2027

Based on a report from BBC Hausa, leaders of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are actively trying to convince former president Goodluck Jonathan to run for president again in 2027 under their party’s banner.

The party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed these efforts, stating that Jonathan is being courted because “many Nigerians are also making similar calls to the former president to come back.”

Abdullahi praised Jonathan as a statesman and a good leader, highlighting his decision to concede the 2015 election to avoid bloodshed, a move he described as exhibiting “a high level of statesmanship.”

Abdullahi claimed that Jonathan has responded positively to the invitation, saying he would “ponder and consult about it to make a decision.”

The former president reportedly set a condition: he must be given an “automatic ticket” if he accepts the offer.

The report also noted that as part of the efforts to persuade him, some governors followed Jonathan to Gambia, where he was attending an event.
