FG List 14 States At Risk Of Heavy Rainfall, Flooding Between September 4 And September 8

The Federal Ministry of Environment has issued a “flood alert” for 14 states, warning that “43 locations” may experience “heavy rainfall” that could lead to flooding between September 4 and September 8, 2025.

The alert was issued by the ministry’s National Flood Early Warning Centre.

The ministry, in a statement signed by its Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, noted that flooding is a “pressing environmental challenge” in Nigeria, often leading to “displacement,” “destruction of farmlands,” and “waterborne diseases.”

The affected states and locations are:

  • Ebonyi: Afikpo
  • Cross River: Edor, Ikom, Itigidi, Akpap
  • Kano: Gwarzo, Karaye
  • Zamfara: Anka, Gummi, Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Shinkafi, Bukkuyum
  • Taraba: Dampar, Duchi, Garkowa, Gassol, Gembu, Gun Gun Bodel, Kambari, Mayo Ranewo, Mutum Biyu, Bandawa, Ngaruwa
  • Abia: Eziama, Umuahia
  • Yobe: Geidam, Kanama, Potiskum
  • Plateau: Langtang, Shendam, Wase
  • Borno: Ngala
  • Imo: Okigwe, Otoko
  • Niger: Sarki Pawa
  • Sokoto: Sokoto, Wamakko, Isa, Shagari, Makira
  • Kaduna: Kafanchan
  • Akwa Ibom: Oron
