Former Governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja, has been officially crowned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
He received the crown at the Ose Meji Temple in the Ibadan South-East Local Government Area of the state after earlier receiving the traditional “Akoko leaf” at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, Ibadan.
Ladoja became the Olubadan-designate following the death of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on July 7, 2025.
The “colourful installation ceremony” was held at the “historic Mapo Hall” in Ibadan, Oyo State, on September 26, 2025.
Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to formally present Oba Ladoja with the “staff of office” at the same venue. The event attracted hundreds of guests and residents.
Prominent guests at the ceremony included the Alaafin Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade; Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Ọlaoye; Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III; former Ogun State governor Ibikunle Amosun; the Chief Imam of Ibadan; former Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso; and former Osun governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
A “heavy presence of security agents,” including operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army, was in place to ensue a “hitch-free ceremony.”
The Olubadan stool is “highly respected for its distinct succession system.”
