Three PDP Rep Members Defect To APC

The Kaduna State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Representatives lost three members to the ruling party on Tuesday following their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors—Abdulkarim Ahmed (Kaduna South), Aliyu Mustapha (Ikara/Kubau), and Sadiq Ango-Abdullahi (Sabongari)—announced their decisions in “three separate letters read by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas during Tuesday’s plenary.”

Kaduna State has recently seen many politicians join the APC from rival parties, including the return of Senator Shehu Sani and Hon Amos Magaji.

This influx of members, publicly received by Governor Uba Sani and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, is “fuelling insinuations of a plot to stifle opposition in the North-West State.”

The three members cited what they called “The lingering crisis in the PDP” and the need to align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as their reasons for changing political platforms.

In a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman, Makera Ward, Kaduna South Local Government Area, Ahmed announced his resolve to resign from the party, explaining:“The constant internal conflicts and factionalism within the PDP, which have climaxed into an elongated party crisis, are undesirably impacting my ability to effectively represent my constituency and accomplish my obligations optimally.”

He further justified his decision:“In view of the enduring situation and after a wide consultation with my constituents, key stakeholders and my political allies, I have come to the tough but needed decision to resign my membership of the PDP.”

“This decision is driven by my commitment to continue serving my good people of Kaduna South Federal Constituency, beyond partisan lines, ensuring that all my constituents benefit from purposeful, inclusive, and effective representation.”

Ahmed concluded by expressing gratitude:“I sincerely thank the PDP for the privilege and opportunity to serve under its platform.”

“The support, trust, and experiences I have gained during my time with the party were priceless, and I am very grateful to the leadership and members at all levels.”

“While thanking you for your support, please accept the assurances of my esteemed regards.”
