Why Murray-Bruce Joined APC – Dele Momodu

ADC chieftain Dele Momodu has offered his explanation for why former Bayelsa Senator Ben Murray-Bruce defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), asserting that the move was predictable.

Speaking on the ‘Prime Time’ program on Arise Television on Friday, the Ovation Magazine publisher suggested that Murray-Bruce’s decision was unsurprising because the APC “is where the road was smooth at the moment.”

Momodu first expressed his personal reaction: “I watched it in utter disbelief because I assumed that he worked with us with the Atiku campaign during the presidential election. That’s my belief and maybe my judgment was wrong.”

However, he affirmed the right of the former Senator to defect, saying, “However, I give him the right enshrined in the constitution of Nigeria about freedom of association and freedom of movement. So, I don’t have any problem with it. Nothing can ever shock me again about politicians.”

Momodu stated that some politicians have “genuine reasons to move from one party to another, especially if you have some aspirations which we believe will be better served in the next party.”

He then delivered a sharp criticism of the perception of opposition figures: “So Murray-Bruce moving to the APC is not surprising; that is where the road is smooth at the moment. Those of us in opposition are regarded as very stupid and not smart enough for not joining the rat race.”
