Lamido Reacts As Trump Threatens Military Action In Nigeria Over ‘Killing Of Christians

Former Jigawa State Governor Alhaji Sule Lamido described the threat by US President Donald Trump to launch military attacks in Nigeria over alleged “genocide” as “ominous.”

This threat came immediately after President Trump, on Friday, redesignated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” a label the US government under Trump had previously applied in 2020.

President Bola Tinubu had already “rejected the allegation,” asserting that “religious persecution has no place in Nigeria.”

However, remaining “unconvinced,” Trump further threatened to launch attacks in Nigeria to “wipe out terrorists” he “claimed are killing Christians in the country.”

Trump also ordered the “Department of War to prepare for possible action in Nigeria” and warned that the US “might cut off all aid and assistance to Nigeria.”

Adding his perspective via social media, Sule Lamido urged President Tinubu to convene an urgent meeting with “all past leaders” to deliberate and “find solutions to the US threat to Nigeria.”

Lamido stressed that this moment requires all Nigerians to unite around the country’s “sovereignty” to avoid what he termed a “looming danger.”

He wrote, “The threat of war on Nigeria from President Trump of the United States of America under whatever guise is very ominous! The consequences of such action can not be imagined!

“It is now time for all Nigerians of all creed to unite around our SOVEREIGNTY.

“President Tinubu on his part must swallow his pride and invite ALL our past leaders for close door meeting to fully discuss and find a way around this dangerous development. The leaders MUST on their part ignore whatever are their personal differences with President Tinubu and come to terms on how to avert this looming danger.

“Our former Presidents and Heads of State are more than eminently positioned to engage the USA and President Trump in an all out QUIET DIPLOMACY outside Media realm to resolve whatever is the US concern. For now, Nigeria does not have the luxury of time.”
