A section of President Bola Tinubu’s campaign office in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, has been demolished by the Benue State Urban Development Board.
The affected building, which also served as the state secretariat of the Ahmed Bola Tinubu Support Group, had its perimeter fence pulled down.
The office was only inaugurated last week during a well-attended ceremony that drew supporters from Benue and other North Central states.
The event was organized by Dr. Mathias Terwase Byuan, Executive Director of Housing, Finance, and Accounts at the Federal Housing Authority, who doubles as the National Coordinator and Chief Convener of the group.

Speaking with journalists on Thursday, the Director-General of the President Ahmed Bola Tinubu (PABT) Support Group, Dr. Tarnongo Simon, expressed shock over the development, stating that the building had both a valid Certificate of Occupancy and an approved plan issued by the same development board that carried out the demolition.
He said, “We were in the office this morning when they arrived and began pulling down the structure without any prior notice. This act is unjustified and condemnable. I have reported the incident to our convener. However, this will not affect our loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or our commitment to a stronger North Central.”
Reacting to the incident, the Benue State Government denied any political motive behind the demolition.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kula Terso, the government clarified that Governor Hyacinth Alia did not order the demolition of the Tinubu campaign office.
According to the statement, the affected property was among several structures removed along the Wurukum–Yaikyor–Apir–Ikpayongo axis of Makurdi as part of the ongoing dualisation of the Makurdi–Enugu highway — a Federal Government project being implemented in collaboration with state authorities.
The statement explained that the demolitions target buildings constructed on designated road setbacks and rights of way.
“Owners of approved buildings have been compensated in line with due process,” it stated.
“However, illegal structures without proper authorization were marked and notified to vacate the area as they obstruct the road expansion work and violate planning laws.”

The government described attempts to politicize the demolition as “deceitful and mischievous,” alleging that some individuals had repainted buildings and mounted political billboards to portray the exercise as a political witch-hunt.
It further noted that the dualisation project extends from Makurdi to the Benue–Enugu boundary, with the Enugu State Government continuing from its end.
Governor Alia urged residents to disregard misleading narratives, emphasizing that the exercise is part of efforts to modernize the state and improve infrastructure.
“Development cannot thrive amid distortion and political mischief,” the statement added.
“This project, once completed, will greatly benefit the people of Benue and Nigeria as a whole. The Alia administration remains committed to fairness, the rule of law, and collective progress.”
