Onyeka Onwenu has passed away. According to sources, the renowned singer, songwriter, and actress died on Tuesday night at the age of 72 after performing at an event in Banana Island, Lagos.
An eyewitness reported that Onwenu collapsed after her performance at the birthday celebration of Stella Okoli, owner of Emzor Pharmaceuticals. She was later confirmed dead at a hospital in Victoria Island, as reported by The Guardian Newspaper. Her family has yet to confirm her death.
In addition to her illustrious career in the arts, Onyeka Onwenu had a notable career in politics. She served as the chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture and as the Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development.
