President Bola Tinubu on Thursday transmitted a new list of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation, a request that came “barely 24 hours” after the upper chamber had started screening an earlier batch of three nominees.
The President’s letter was read during the plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who indicated that Tinubu urged the lawmakers to give the nominations “urgent consideration.”
In the correspondence, Tinubu specifically asked the Senate to “consider and confirm expeditiously” the 15 career ambassadors and 17 non-career ambassadors.

The letter partially stated: “I am pleased to present for confirmation the list of the 32 ambassadorial nominees for the positions of career ambassadors, non-career ambassadors and high commissioners.”
The non-career category features several prominent political figures, including former presidential aide Reno Omokri, former Aviation Minister Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, ex-Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former Lagos deputy governor Otunba Femi Pedro, and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, among others.

Following the unveiling of the nominees, Akpabio referred the full list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for screening, directing that “The committee is to report back to us in one week.”
