The index analyzes over 60 factors to determine a country’s rank, assessing everything from troop numbers and defense budgets to logistical efficiency and geographic advantages.
A “perfect” Power Index score is 0.0000, meaning a lower score represents a more formidable fighting force.
Below are the top ten African nations recognized for their conventional war-making capabilities as of late 2025:
1. Egypt (Global Rank: 19)
Egypt maintains its crown as the continent’s military leader. With an estimated 1.2 million personnel and a sophisticated arsenal of tanks, aircraft, and naval assets, it ranks 19th worldwide.
