I Have The Knife, I Have The Yam, I Will Cut It – Tinubu Threatens Governors Publicly With Direct FAAC Deductions Over LG Autonomy [VIDEO]

President Bola Tinubu has cautioned state governors that he is prepared to use an Executive Order to guarantee direct funding to local governments if they continue to disregard the Supreme Court’s ruling on financial autonomy.

The President issued this warning on Friday during the 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.

Expressing frustration with governors who continue to withhold statutory funds, Tinubu made it clear that he could bypass state channels to ensure funds from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) reach local councils directly.

Addressing a room that included the governors themselves, Tinubu stated: “The Supreme Court has capped it for you again, saying, ‘give them their money directly.’ If you wait for my Executive Order, because I have the knife, I have the yam, I will cut it.”

He further signaled that his patience was wearing thin, adding, “I’m just being very respectful and understanding with my governors. Otherwise, if you don’t start to implement it, fact after fact, you will see.”

This development stems from the July 11, 2024, Supreme Court judgment which declared it unconstitutional for state governments to control or manage local council funds.

The apex court had mandated direct payments to councils to end the practice of state-controlled “joint accounts.”

Reiterating the necessity of legal compliance, the President warned that federal intervention remains on the table: “The ultimate goal is our Supreme Court. We have to comply. We have to respect the judgment,” he insisted.
