One Policeman Has Been Reported Murdered And Others Seriously Injured – IGP Gives Update On Protest, Puts Officers On Red Alert

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has reported that a police officer was killed while on duty during the #EndBadGovernance protests held across the country on Thursday.

Speaking at a briefing in Abuja, Egbetokun stated that several other officers were injured by hoodlums who infiltrated the protests, posing as demonstrators.

He also mentioned that some police stations across the nation were set ablaze by violent rioters.

Egbetokun expressed regret over the events in major cities, describing them as a “mass uprising and looting, not protests.”

He noted that the protest leaders were absent during the rallies, despite previous warnings from the police, allowing hoodlums to take over the demonstrations.

“Police stations have been destroyed. There have been attempts to take over government houses,” Egbetokun said, adding that looting of public and private warehouses and facilities was widespread.

“In places like FCT, Kaduna, Kano and Gombe, among others, we recorded incidents of unprovoked attacks on our security personnel where one policeman has been reported murdered and others seriously injured.

“In light of the current situation, the Nigeria Police Force has placed all units on red alert. Our officers are fully mobilised and prepared to respond swiftly and decisively to public safety and order,” the IGP said.
