Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved a strategic cabinet reshuffle, appointing Christopher Green as the state’s new Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
Green, who previously headed the Ministry of Sports, moves into the role effectively immediately to fill the vacancy left by Mr. Dagogo Iboroma, SAN.
Iboroma’s exit followed a Supreme Court ruling that recognized Martin Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, rendering appointments screened by the factional Oko-Jumbo assembly invalid.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr. Honour Sirawoo, Green will maintain a dual role for the time being.
“Barrister Green will also continue to coordinate the activities of the Ministry of Sports pending the appointment of a substantive commissioner to oversee the ministry,” the statement clarified.
The Governor’s office emphasized that this move is intended to enhance the efficiency of the state’s legal and administrative framework.
“The redeployment takes immediate effect… underscoring the Governor’s commitment to strengthening governance, ensuring continuity in service delivery and optimising the performance of key ministries within the state,” the statement added.
This administrative change occurs against a backdrop of intense political friction.
The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, recently intensified his criticism of Fubara, warning that “politics would resume fully” in January 2026.
Wike has accused the Governor of betrayal and noted that loyalty to President Bola Tinubu is not a guaranteed ticket for a second term.
Currently, Fubara’s cabinet relies on eight commissioners who were originally confirmed by the Amaewhule-led House before the state’s political crisis began.
