The National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has clarified his position regarding a potential return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he will not make such a move without a detailed understanding of the associated terms.
In a video shared on Facebook by his aide, Saifullahi Hassan, the former two-term governor of Kano State explained that any decision to rejoin the ruling party must be anchored on concrete agreements that address his specific responsibilities and the future of his political followers.
Kwankwaso made his requirements for any potential defection very clear, asserting his need for transparency before making a commitment.

“I will not go to the APC blindly,” Kwankwaso said. “I must be clearly informed of my role, the direction of the journey, and the fate of our plans for the common people, including the position of our supporters and the Kano State Government. That is my stand.”
He emphasized that his political decisions must always place the welfare of the masses and the interests of his significant support base, especially within Kano State, at the forefront.
The NNPP leader further expressed his opposition to the idea of merging with the ruling party without a pre-defined and well-structured pact.
He noted that major political shifts require careful consideration rather than impulsive action.
“I disagree with joining any party without reaching a clear agreement,” he said, while insisting that mutual understanding and clarity are necessary prerequisites for any transition.
These comments come during a period of intense political speculation, as reports suggest that some loyalists have been encouraging both Kwankwaso and the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to move their supporters into the APC.
While it has been gathered that Governor Yusuf reportedly yielded to this pressure, he allegedly did so against the preference of his mentor.
Given Kwankwaso’s substantial grassroots influence, his firm stance continues to be a major point of discussion within the political landscape of Kano State and Nigeria at large.
