Tinubu Takes Action Amid Wike-Fubara Feud In Rivers

President Bola Tinubu has confirmed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is the authentic leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, a stance voiced by his Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala.

This declaration follows the intense political rivalry between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the FCT.

Speaking on Channels Television, Bwala noted that the President supports the view of APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, asserting, “I agree with the point highlighted by the national chairman that in Rivers State, Governor Fubara is the leader of the APC. Wike is not a member of the APC, so he cannot speak for the party.”

Bwala clarified that while Wike might hold influence in the PDP, the APC structure belongs to the Governor.

He emphasized that the President’s position “respects party procedures” and the “rule of law and due process.”

Regarding Wike’s role in the cabinet, Bwala remarked, “Wike has been adequately compensated. The president believes in compensating people, but not at the expense of the interest of Nigeria. President Bola Tinubu gives latitude, but once you cross the line, you will know.”

On the matter of the ongoing impeachment attempts against the Governor, Bwala insisted that “the impeachment procedure must be consistent with the practice of law and constitutional requirements.”

He added that “there are court orders stopping the impeachment, and the party is clear: nobody should stop Fubara from governing Rivers State.”

The Rivers State APC has embraced this development, stating that the “Presidential clarification has once again vindicated our uncompromising stand on this matter.”

The chapter noted that the reaffirmation “justifies the position of Rivers State APC on the position of the state Governor, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara as leader of our party in Rivers State.”

The party is now calling for new congresses and urging Governor Fubara to convene a stakeholders’ meeting to “set the direction for the party going forward.”
