As military investigations continue into the foiled coup attempt against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, PREMIUM TIMES has exclusively identified 16 high-ranking officers allegedly involved.
Sources revealed that “14 of the 16 detained officers with regards to the coup plot are from the Nigerian Army,” with the remaining two representing the Navy and the Air Force.
Within the Army, “12 of the 14 army officers belong to the Infantry Corps,” while the others are from the Signals and Ordnance Corps.

The group includes a Brigadier General, a Colonel, four Lieutenant Colonels, five Majors, two Captains, and a Lieutenant.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the military and government have largely remained silent, with Defence Headquarters only clarifying that the plot was “not the reason for the low-key Independence Anniversary on 1 October.”

Brigadier General Musa Abubakar Sadiq (N/10321): An indigene of Nasarawa State and member of Regular Course 44, Sadiq is “suspected to be the leader of the coup plot.” He has previously faced allegations of “alleged diversion of rice palliatives, selling of military equipment, including generator sets and operational vehicles to scrap yards.”

Colonel M.A. Ma’aji (N/10668): A 49-year-old infantry officer from Niger State, Ma’aji is suspected of being the “key strategist for the coup plot.” He previously commanded the 19 Battalion in Ondo State and led “Operation Delta Safe.”

Lt. Colonel S. Bappah (N/13036): A 41-year-old from Bauchi State and a member of the 56 Regular Course, serving in the Signals Corps.

Lt. Colonel A.A. Hayatu (N/13038): An infantry officer from Kaduna State and also a member of the 56 Regular Course.

P. Dangnap (N/13025): From Plateau State, Dangnap was previously “court-martialed alongside 29 others for offences related to the fight against Boko Haram” in 2015.

Lt. Colonel M. Almakura (N/12983): An infantry officer from Nasarawa State and a member of the 56 Regular Course.

Major A. J Ibrahim (N/13065): A Gombe State indigene who became a captain in 2013.

Major M.M. Jiddah (N/13003): An infantry officer from Katsina State and member of the 56 Regular Course.

Major M.A. Usman (N/15404): A member of the 60th Regular Course from the Federal Capital Territory.

Major D. Yusuf (N/14753): An Ordnance Corps officer from Gombe State and member of the 59th Regular Course.

Major I. Dauda (N/13625): A Jigawa State native who joined via the Direct Short Service Commission (Course 38).
The list also includes Captain Ibrahim Bello, Captain A.A. Yusuf, Lieutenant S.S. Felix, Lieutenant Commander D.B. Abdullahi (Navy), and Squadron Leader S.B. Adamu (Air Force), though specific details on their roles remain limited.
