Bello El-Rufai, the lawmaker representing Kaduna North in the House of Representatives and son of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has clarified the specific conditions under which he would exit the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Responding to a social media user who urged him to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—a party his father is now closely linked with—Bello emphasized that his political mandate is tied to the 51,052 constituents who elected him.
To underscore the weight of his victory, he noted: “Bello El-Rufai wins Kaduna North rep seats with 51,052 to defeat the PDP candidate, Samaila who polled 34,808 votes. El-Rufai’s son sets a record by being the first candidate to win all 12 wards in Kaduna North.”

Despite his electoral independence, the lawmaker admitted that his father, whom he calls “Mallam,” remains the ultimate authority over his career.
He stated boldly: “If Mallam asks me to leave the APC, I’ll resign the seat tonight. I can be non-partisan. My people adore me!”
He even challenged his critics by offering a ₦10 million reward to anyone who could convince his thousands of voters to support a party switch, asking derisively, “Do you have an app to confirm?”

Bello also maintained a firm stance of respect toward the current Kaduna State leadership.
He described Governor Uba Sani as his “boss” and revealed that he recently attended an APC caucus meeting with the Governor and the Speaker to signal his continued alignment with the state’s ruling structure.
“I will never publicly go against Governor and I will not plan his demise. It is called honour,” he declared, insisting that he would not undermine party structures despite his father’s evolving political position.
As political realignments for the 2027 elections intensify, Bello’s comments suggest a delicate balancing act.
While he remains a disciplined member of the APC and a loyalist to Governor Sani, he has made it clear that his ultimate allegiance belongs to his father and his constituents.
He concluded his defense with a defiant warning to his father’s critics, saying, “And I dare anyone to try to call him out,” signaling that any future move to the ADC would depend entirely on a direct order from the elder El-Rufai.
