Nigeria is home to some of the largest church auditoriums in the world, with several “Gospel Cities” sprawling across the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
These structures are architectural marvels designed to hold hundreds of thousands of worshippers.
The following ranking is based on certified seating capacity—the number of individual fixed seats within the primary sanctuary.
1. Hand of God Cathedral (Salvation Ministries)
Located in Port Harcourt, this is currently regarded as the largest church auditorium in the world. The cathedral features a colossal span and a capacity of approximately 120,000 seats in a single sanctuary. Pastor David Ibiyeomie has stated: “The 120,000 capacity cathedral is the largest church auditorium in the world.”
2. Glory Sanctuary Dome (Dunamis International Gospel Centre)
Situated in Abuja, the “Glory Dome” was the world’s largest until the completion of the Hand of God. It is a 100,000-seat capacity building that boasts a roof span covering several hectares without internal pillars. The church notes the design ensures “every worshipper enjoys an unobstructed view of the altar.”
3. The Apostolic Church National Temple
Located in Lagos, this is one of the largest orthodox-Pentecostal structures in the country. It is a massive auditorium that can seat approximately 100,000 worshippers, often used for the church’s annual conventions. It was inaugurated as “a symbol of the church’s unification.”
4. The Ark (Living Faith Church / Winners Chapel)
Set to be fully dedicated in 2026 in Ota, Ogun State, this new masterpiece has a capacity of 109,345 seats. Bishop David Oyedepo confirmed that “the 109,000 seats for the Main Bowl have been on ground for almost 2 years now.”
5. Faith Tabernacle (Living Faith Church Worldwide / Winners Chapel)
For many years, this was the Guinness World Record holder for the largest church auditorium. Located in Ota, Ogun State, the 50,000-seat sanctuary is the heart of “Canaanland.” The ministry notes it “was completed in 1999 and at the time held the Guinness World Record.”
6. International Gospel Centre (Word of Life Bible Church)
Located in Warri, Delta State, this massive facility was built by Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. It has a seating capacity of about 35,000 and was one of the first “mega-churches” in the Niger Delta region.
7. Deeper Life Bible Church Headquarters
The Deeper Life Christian Centre in Gbagada, Lagos, is a modern architectural masterpiece. The headquarters was unveiled with an integrated capacity of roughly 30,000 to 65,000 seats. It is described as “one of Lagos’s most admired religious structures.”
8. Loveworld Convocation Arena (Christ Embassy)
Located in Oregun, Lagos, this arena belongs to Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s Believers’ Loveworld. It is a massive indoor multipurpose hall used for major summits, seating over 20,000 to 30,000 people.
9. The Rock Cathedral (House on the Rock)
Located in Lekki, Lagos, this multi-billion Naira facility serves as the headquarters for Pastor Paul Adefarasin’s ministry. While its capacity is around 14,000 to 15,000, it is recognized for hosting “The Experience,” the largest gospel concert in Africa.
10. The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Church Headquarters
Located in Ijesha, Lagos, this facility has a capacity of approximately 30,000 seats. It serves as the hub for the global movement led by Pastor Lazarus Muoka, known for events that “attract tens of thousands of worshippers from around the world.”
Note on Redemption Camp (RCCG) and MFM Prayer City
The Redemption Camp operates a “3km by 3km Arena” designed to hold millions, while MFM Prayer City features an expansive open-sided structure.
These are ranked as “worship grounds” or “pavilions” rather than traditional enclosed “buildings” because of their open-air architectural style.
