Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has shared his perspective on Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, describing him as an exceptional individual who is nonetheless incapable of securing the Nigerian presidency.
During an appearance on Channels Television on Thursday, Melaye argued that Obi lacks the necessary qualities to foster national unity, despite Obi’s repeated assertions that he intends to run for the office again in 2027.

Melaye expressed high personal regard for the former governor but maintained that the timing is wrong for his leadership, stating: “But let me even tell you, Peter Obi is a fantastic Nigerian. I have tremendous respect for him, and I’ve said it before, he is a fantastic person, but this is not his time to be President,”
This commentary follows Melaye’s own recent political activities; after his tenure in the National Assembly, he sought the governorship of Kogi State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
However, that bid was unsuccessful, as he lost the election to the current governor, Ahmed Ododo.
