To celebrate the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the Federal Government has officially designated Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays for the Eid-il-Fitr festivities.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration on behalf of the government, offering his heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of their fast.
In a statement issued through the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister encouraged believers to maintain the core values of the holy month, including “love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.”

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also called on all citizens to utilize this holiday period to offer prayers for Nigeria’s continued “peace, unity, and prosperity.”
While wishing the nation a joyful celebration, he advised Nigerians to celebrate with a sense of responsibility and to remember the less privileged through acts of kindness.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the government’s dedication to “fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.”
