The viral video captures a lady accusing a police officer of inappropriate touching during a stop-and-search operation.

The video, shared on social media on Sunday shows a visibly upset lady questioning the officer’s methods as her bags, pockets, and body were searched at the Festac area of the state.

“What’s the meaning of all these?” the lady asked, while also refusing the officer’s request to remove her wig.

In the video, the policewoman is also seen instructing the lady to stop filming and delete the recording.

The Lagos State Police Command has officially cleared a female officer of any misconduct following a viral video on X (formerly Twitter) in which a woman accused her of inappropriate touching during a stop-and-search operation.

In a response issued via X on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the Command clarified that the officer’s conduct was entirely within the legal framework of the Police Act 2020. This legislation grants officers the authority to perform searches in public spaces to prevent crime.

“The Lagos State Police Command has taken cognisance of this viral video circulating. It is important to state that the action of the officer, as seen in the video, falls within the provisions of the Police Act, 2020, which empowers Police officers to stop and search individuals in public places in the course of crime prevention and public safety duties,” the official statement read.

The Command highlighted that established protocols specifically require a female officer to conduct searches on female suspects or individuals.

Furthermore, the police defended the rigorous nature of the search, explaining that suspects often use “unconventional places” to hide contraband.

According to the statement, “Indeed, there have been several instances where individuals conceal illicit substances, weapons, or other incriminating items in unconventional places such as wigs, caps, clothing, and personal effects, necessitating thorough but lawful searches.”

The police concluded by calling for public understanding and cooperation during these security checks to ensure better safety for everyone. “The Command therefore urges members of the public to cooperate with the Police whenever they find themselves in such situations, as such cooperation greatly enhances effective policing and crime prevention,” the statement noted.
