Kwankwaso Opens Up On ADC Sharing Formula

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and former Governor of Kano State, has disclosed that his group opted for a smaller portion of the power-sharing deal within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) than what was originally proposed.

Speaking to movement members in Kano over the weekend, Kwankwaso explained that while the bloc of former New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) members who moved to the ADC was initially offered 80 percent of the party’s leadership structure, they chose to accept only 60 percent.

Sharing the details of the negotiation with his supporters, he said: “They gave us 60 per cent and the old ADC took 40 per cent. In the presence of the national leadership, they offered 80 per cent but we said no and took 60.”

Kwankwaso noted that this move was intended to promote unity and invite others to join the fold, stating: “We showed them that we want everyone else to come in.”

He further highlighted that this 60-40 split is a familiar strategy for the movement, drawing parallels to their previous political migration, saying: “When we came from PDP to APC that time, we had government and we did the same—60-40.”

The former governor also addressed the distribution of leadership roles within Kano State, confirming that Kwankwasiyya members currently occupy key positions across all 44 local government areas.

However, he revealed that some concessions were made to appease other stakeholders.

Kwankwaso explained: “In every local government, we are the ones who have chairmen and other leaders across the 44, but after an outcry, we have given them 10 out of the 44.”

Closing his address, he called for restraint and discipline among his followers regarding the allocation of offices.

He counseled them: “I want us to be patient enough. Don’t say you must be everywhere or insist on a particular person when that person may not even be eligible.”
