Olusegun Mimiko, the former Governor of Ondo State, has officially stepped down from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The announcement was made through a formal letter directed to the party chairman of Ward 7 in the Ondo West Local Government Area.
In the document, which was reviewed on Thursday, the former governor—who led the state from 2009 to 2016—confirmed that his departure was retroactive, having taken effect on April 10, 2026.
Mimiko explained that he decided to make the move public to clear up any confusion regarding his political affiliations. “Speculations and inquiries about my membership status have made it necessary for me to clarify my position,” he noted.
He further clarified his current standing by stating, “As I have been somewhat distanced from party activities, I wish to put it on record that I am no longer a member of the PDP.”
He emphasized that his exit was a personal choice made without any ill will toward the party or its members.
While he has remained largely on the sidelines of active politics in recent times, his official statement, “I am tendering my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party, effective from April 10, 2026,” puts an end to the ongoing rumors about his status.
