Aminu Gwarzo, a former Deputy Governor of Kano State, has stepped down from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), pointing to changes within the political landscape.
His departure was formalized in a letter dated May 1, 2026, sent to the party chairman in the Gwarzo Local Government Area, with the resignation taking effect immediately.
Gwarzo explained that “The decision follows careful thought and consultations with my associates, supporters, and well-wishers across the state.”
He identified recent shifts in politics as a primary reason for his exit, noting that “The changing political climate has made it necessary for me to reassess my membership in the interest of the people and the future of our state and country.”
He further noted that his choice was driven by a dedication to public service, stating, “My decision is based on patriotic reasons and the need to follow a political direction that reflects my vision for good governance, democratic principles, and sustainable development.”
Before leaving, he offered his gratitude to the party’s rank and file, saying, “I sincerely thank the leadership and members of the party for their cooperation, respect, and support.”
While Gwarzo has not yet disclosed his future plans, observers believe the move is tied to the political realignments currently taking shape for the 2027 general elections.
