A significant political upset has occurred in Plateau State following Saturday’s nationwide All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary elections, with incumbent lawmaker Yusuf Gagdi failing to clinch the party’s ticket for a return term.
Gagdi, who currently represents the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in the lower chamber of the National Assembly, was unseated by John Tonshinen in a highly competitive primary election.
According to the official results announced by the APC electoral committee under the supervision of Daspan Ishaya across the Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam Local Government Areas, Tonshinen secured a landslide victory with 299,968 votes.

In contrast, Gagdi managed to pull 5,849 votes, while a third aspirant in the race, Hopar Gopbia, finished with just five votes.
The official declaration triggered massive celebrations among Tonshinen’s followers, with numerous supporters hailing the electoral outcome as a groundbreaking moment in the political history of the constituency.
