As tension rises over the safety of numerous school children and educators seized in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, the affected community has resorted to spiritual measures to bring the captives back safely.
A video making the rounds on Tuesday, May 19, which was published by The Cable, showed a traditional priest identified as Muraina Mutairo, the Onisa of Esin Ele, performing an indigenous ritual.
During the ceremony, he called upon traditional deities to pursue the bandits and shield the abducted children from harm.
In the trending clip, Mutairo is captured in traditional garb, reciting incantations in Yoruba and appealing to the ancestral protectors of the community to ensure the victims are brought back home and to “overcome the enemies.”

The Onisa subsequently invited a traditional ruler who led a session of prayers, repeating the priest’s pronouncements for the secure and uninjured return of the learners and their educators.
Furthermore, he requested that a spirit of disorder and infighting overtake the kidnappers’ hideout, while pleading that law enforcement agents apprehend the criminals dead or alive.
Meanwhile, heavy criticism has continued to follow Friday’s raid by bandits on three educational institutions within the local government area, an incident that left two individuals dead and resulted in the abduction of roughly 30 students and teachers.
The raid, which took place on May 16, involved armed bandits invading the neighborhood to kidnap staff members, students, and pupils from three separate institutions: Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
