Security forces have deployed multiple police vans to completely barricade all access roads leading to the “A-Class” event centre in Abuja, the designated venue for a planned special convention aimed at ratifying former president Goodluck Jonathan as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The convention is organized by a faction of the party loyal to Tanimu Turaki.
The heavy police presence has entirely blocked off the two main entry routes coming from the Wuse and Maitama axes into the event venue premises.

This sudden restriction has cut off access not just for the PDP members aligned with Turaki, but also for standard motorists and commuters who have no affiliation with the scheduled political gathering.
This tactical shutdown follows a firm security directive issued on Friday by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who cautioned hotel managers and event venue owners against permitting unauthorized or illegal political groups to utilize their facilities, citing safety concerns within the FCT.
Reacting immediately to the blockade, the PDP released an official statement pointing fingers at Wike for trying to sabotage their program.
According to the statement, the party said the management of A Class Event Centre informed it that pressure was being mounted on the venue to stop the gathering from taking place.
The party officials clarified that they had successfully finalized financial payments for the property and met every criterion necessary to secure the premises.
They further noted that all relevant security apparatuses had been formally briefed ahead of the convention, which was explicitly scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Wuse 2, Abuja.
In the official dispatch authorized by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP disclosed that its legal team has been ordered to issue a formal reminder to the event centre’s administrators regarding the active contract binding both entities.
The political party strongly maintained that the ratifying convention will go on as planned, refusing to back down in the face of what it categorized as state-sponsored bullying.
“We are certain that Nigeria is a country governed by law, and any attempt to use force to suppress political dissent and opposition is an aberration which must be resisted by all people of good conscience,” the statement read.
