Dino Melaye, the former lawmaker representing Kogi West, has applauded former Vice President Atiku Abubakar following his victory as the 2027 presidential standard-bearer for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Melaye compared Atiku’s triumph at the ADC presidential primary to Arsenal’s recent historic achievement in the English Premier League.
Taking to his handle on X, Melaye posted: “Boss, you did it just like Arsenal.”
Tunde Ogbeha, who served as the chairman of the ADC presidential primary election committee, declared Atiku the winner on Wednesday night.
According to Ogbeha, Atiku cleared 1,846,370 votes to defeat his closest rivals, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen and Rotimi Amaechi. Amaechi pulled 504,117 votes, while Hayatu-Deen secured 177,120 votes.
This nomination sets Atiku up to launch his sixth bid for the nation’s top job in 2027.
He has successfully made it onto the presidential ballot three times previously, contesting in 2007, 2019, and 2023.
Meanwhile, on May 19, Arsenal celebrated clinching its first English Premier League trophy in 22 years.
The title was solidified after Manchester City stumbled in a -1 draw against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, mathematically handing the championship to the Gunners.
