Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has forecast a sweeping, landslide victory for President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Lawal shared these thoughts during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Monday, coming right after he used his official Facebook page to announce his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The former SGF explained that he has made up his mind to walk away from active partisan politics completely, pointing to deep frustration and dissatisfaction with how political activities are carried out across Nigeria.
Moving forward, he noted that he prefers to channel his energy into other personal interests, particularly farming and his local church activities.
“I’ve just come to the conclusion that in Nigerian politics, everybody is… I don’t understand how it’s practised. I don’t know how it should be practised. Maybe there are some Nigerians who know to run their things. I don’t want to be part of anything again,” he said.
Lawal, who previously belonged to an opposition alliance that had chosen the ADC as their unified political vehicle, maintained that removing Tinubu from office in the next election cycle will be an uphill task for any challenger.
“Tinubu will win with landslide. If the parameter for winning the election in Nigeria is rigging, nobody can face Bola Tinubu,” he stated.
Going further, he took a swipe at other opposition figures, adding:“If Atiku’s strength is in manipulating results, he will meet the master leader in the front next year. And so they will be all the worse for it,” Lawal stated.
The former government scribe also made it clear that he will not be throwing his weight behind Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), reiterating that his days of participating in political movements are entirely over.
“I won’t support Peter Obi. I don’t want to be part of anything again,” Lawal said.
