The Directorate of State (DOS) of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the “indefinite suspension” of the Office of the Leader of IPOB and the position of Director of Radio Biafra, both of which were previously held by Nnamdi Kanu.

The group stated that this decision, effective immediately, will remain in place pending further notice.

In a formal statement issued on Thursday by the Head of the Directorate of State, Mazi Chikadibia Edoziem, the leadership explained that the move is part of “ongoing administrative and organizational measures” designed to safeguard the movement’s operations and mission.

The DOS indicated that the suspension was enacted to “protect IPOB family members worldwide, especially those in Biafraland, and prevent any security breach or emergency in Biafraland.”

The group expressed concerns over “unchecked actions, reckless assumptions of authority and unguarded utterances” that it claims could lead to the “arrest, torture and deaths of Biafran youths.”

The Directorate further cited intelligence reports regarding alleged meetings between Nnamdi Kanu and operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency in Sokoto Prison.

The DOS alleged that these communications were being used to lay a foundation for the “eventual dissolution of the Indigenous People of Biafra movement” through the “purported dissolution of the Directorate of State.”

IPOB clarified that it would “henceforth not be held accountable for the actions of individuals or groups” not holding active positions within the organization or for actions “taken by persons not authorised by the Directorate of State.”

This development marks a significant internal restructuring for the separatist movement. The group reaffirmed its commitment to a “peaceful struggle,” insisting that the quest for self-determination must remain “non-violent.”
