The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Friday issued a bold challenge to critics, promising to resign within 48 hours if they can prove his administration’s record on road construction in Abuja’s satellite towns is false.
Wike made this declaration during the inauguration of the reconstructed Arab/Gbazango Road in Kubwa, where he detailed the infrastructure achievements of the FCT Administration under President Bola Tinubu.
According to the minister, since President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, the FCT Administration has awarded contracts for 317 kilometres of roads in satellite towns.
He noted that 221 kilometres have already been completed, while 96 kilometres remain under construction.
Wike emphasized that these figures specifically pertain to satellite towns and do not account for road projects executed throughout the entire Federal Capital Territory.
“As I speak to you, since the assumption of office by Mr President, roads covering 317 kilometres have been awarded in the satellite towns. Out of that 317 kilometres, we have completed 221 kilometres, while 96 kilometres are ongoing,” Wike stated.
He further assured residents that two major projects—the Apo-Karshi road and the Bwari-Kubwa road—would be completed before the end of the year.
The minister argued that these initiatives have significantly transformed neglected communities, asserting, “How will satellite town people say they have not benefited from government? They have felt the impact of governance. It has never happened in the history of the administration of this country.”
Directly challenging his detractors, Wike declared, “If there’s anybody who has a contrary view, let him come out and challenge us that all this you are saying is not correct. I will resign as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.”
He repeated the ultimatum for emphasis, inviting any individual or group to appear on national television within 48 hours to disprove his figures.
The minister attributed the rapid pace of development to the unwavering support of President Tinubu and the collaborative relationship maintained with the National Assembly, stating, “On your mandate, we shall stand.”
