The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, has paid glowing tribute to former Minister of Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, praising him as a principled public servant whose lasting contributions to Nigeria’s economic management will continue to inspire future generations.
Oyedele, joined by ministry permanent secretaries Mr. Raymond Omachi and Mr. Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma alongside the entire management and staff, expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the elder statesman in a statement released by the ministry’s Head of Information and Public Relations, Efe Ovuakporie.
Remembering his profound impact on the nation, Oyedele noted that the former minister dedicated his life to serving Nigeria with absolute integrity, discipline, and sound judgment: “His death is a great loss to the nation.”
Highlighting his extensive career, Oyedele pointed out that the late statesman’s public service extended far beyond the Ministry of Finance.
He recalled Alhaji’s diplomatic service representing Nigeria as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, as well as his esteemed traditional leadership role as the Sardaunan Sokoto, which underscored the widespread respect he commanded nationwide.
The finance minister emphasized that Alhaji played a pivotal role in strengthening Nigeria’s public finance institutions, noting that his wisdom, experience, and dedication to the public good remain a benchmark for public servants today.
Concluding the tribute, Oyedele offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Sokoto State Government, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultanate Council, and the entire people of Sokoto State, praying that Almighty Allah grants him Aljannatul Firdaus.
