A horrifying video circulating widely online captures the tragic moment a lightning strike hit a football pitch during a regional tournament match.

The fatal incident took place on August 4, 2026, during a semi-final match of the Golok FA Cup at Santiphap Stadium in Sungai Golok, located in Thailand’s southern Narathiwat province.

During heavy monsoon rain and stormy weather, a powerful flash of lightning struck the field, instantly causing multiple players to collapse to the ground.

The player who lost his life was identified as 24-year-old Sofwan Awae, a winger who had recently signed with the third-tier club Yala FC.

Footage from the scene shows panicked teammates and officials rushing onto the field to administer emergency first aid and flip him onto his back as chaos unfolded.

According to local authorities, a total of 12 other individuals, including a Malaysian player, sustained injuries during the strike and were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

Despite the swift efforts of emergency medical teams, Sofwan succumbed to his severe injuries, leaving the local and regional football community in deep mourning.
