The All Progressives Congress in Kogi State has been thrown into grief following the sudden death of Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, who served as the party chairman for Ijumu Local Government Area.
Solomon collapsed and passed away on Friday at the Iyara Town Hall, which serves as the administrative center for Ijumu Local Government Area, during a peace and reconciliation session.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the official cause of his sudden death as of the time this report was prepared.
According to attendees present at the gathering, the session was ongoing when Solomon experienced a sudden collapse, throwing the political leaders and delegates into immediate confusion.
First aid was administered promptly before rushing him toward a medical facility in nearby Kabba, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Funsho Olumoko, a former chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, organized the gathering following a mandate by the Ijumu Consultative Forum to harmonize local political interests.
The meeting was designed to settle internal disagreements, bridge factions, and foster unity among party members looking ahead to upcoming political events.
This reconciliation effort came on the heels of an earlier gathering in Iyara where local stakeholders backed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for a second term.
Tensions regarding local leadership dominated that previous session, ultimately prompting Solomon and other prominent government officials to stage a walkout.
Friday’s follow-up gathering sought to resolve those differences, drawing together key political figures, ward and local government executives, youth and women leaders, and appointees from all 15 wards across Ijumu Local Government Area.
The unexpected passing of Solomon has brought uncertainty to ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party in Kogi West ahead of future elections.
State executive members of the APC and local authorities had yet to release an official statement at the time of filing.
