Ibrahim Gusau Resigns As NFF President

Ibrahim Gusau has stepped down from his role as President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

He revealed his resignation while speaking to reporters at a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday.

His exit arrives amid mounting pressure and scrutiny regarding the management of Nigerian football, sparked by recent disappointing performances from the country’s senior squads, notably the Super Eagles and Super Falcons failing to secure World Cup qualification.

Gusau, who originally assumed leadership of the nation’s football administration following his election at the 78th Elective Congress of the NFF back in September 2022, relinquished his post just ahead of his term’s completion.

This unexpected departure threatens to cast doubt over the federation’s upcoming electoral roadmap, potentially disrupting the scheduled September 27 board elections due to take place in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
