Award-winning journalist and former Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, has officially resigned her membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sarafa-Yusuf made her exit public via a statement shared on her X account on Thursday, confirming that she had formally notified the Ogun State APC leadership and submitted her resignation letter.
She explained that her exit came after a prolonged period of travel, quality family time, and deep personal evaluation regarding her political trajectory.
“My time in the APC has been an important part of my political journey, and I am grateful for the people I have met, the relationships I have built and the experiences that have shaped my understanding of public service and leadership,” she said.
“there comes a time when one must have the courage to reassess one’s path,” Sarafa-Yusuf noted, emphasizing the need to evaluate how she can more effectively serve Ogun State and the nation at large.
She reassured her supporters that her passion for public service remains fully intact, driven by principles of accountability, integrity, inclusivity, competence, and a genuine commitment to driving positive change.
“It is, therefore, important to reiterate that I am not stepping away from public service. I am taking the next step in the journey,” she said.
She added that moving forward sometimes requires giving oneself the space to reflect, listen, and decide with clarity on the direction to take.
Sarafa-Yusuf revealed that she will focus on her private business enterprises and professional career post-vacation while carefully considering her next moves in mainstream politics.
“I wish the APC and all those within the party well,” she said.
Back in February, Sarafa-Yusuf officially declared her bid to run for the 2027 Ogun State governorship position under the APC umbrella.
She announced her ambition in an open letter addressed to Ogun APC executives, chieftains, and party faithful across her social media platforms, noting it was born out of wide consultations and strategic planning.
Her political involvement with Governor Abiodun dates back to 2018, when she spearheaded his gubernatorial campaign as Director of Media and Publicity, leading media strategy, public relations, and press engagements.
Following Abiodun’s election victory, she was appointed Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
She previously ran for the APC governorship ticket in Ogun State during the 2022 primary elections but failed to secure the nomination.
