Dr Aminu Yusuf Wushishi, who served as the Chairman of the National Population Commission, has passed away.

Reports of his passing emerged in Minna, the capital of Niger State, on Friday, August 28, 2026, coinciding with the period of the Juma’at prayers, leaving colleagues and associates deeply bereaved.

Before his role at the national level, Wushishi operated as the former secretary for the Peoples Democratic Party in Niger State and reportedly fell suddenly ill prior to his demise.

Ambassador Ibrahim Umar Kontagora, the Digital Rector of Niger State Polytechnic in Zungeru, expressed deep grief over the loss, characterizing it as a significant blow to the Kontagora Emirate, Niger State, and the nation overall.

Expressing sympathy through a formal statement, Kontagora noted, “It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that the Digital Rector, Niger State Polytechnic, Zungeru, Amb Ibrahim Umar Kontagora PhD extends his deepest condolences to the entire good people of Kontagora Emirate over the painful loss of Alhaji Aminu Yusuf Talba Wushishi, Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC).”

He added, “His passing is a great loss not only to his immediate family and loved ones, but also to the people of Kontagora Emirate, Niger State, and Nigeria at large.”

The rector remarked, “He was a distinguished personality whose contributions and service to humanity will remain a lasting part of his legacy.”

He continued, “At this difficult moment, we pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives his family, colleagues, friends, and the entire Kontagora Emirate the strength and patience to bear this irreparable loss.”

Kontagora further expressed, “May Allah grant us all a good ending and make our final destination Jannatul Firdaus,” concluding with, “Amin Ya Rabbal Alamin.”

Wushishi took the oath of office as the head of the National Population Commission on December 2, 2025, following a career marked by extensive academic qualifications and diverse public engagements.

He took over the position from Nasir Kwarra, whose five-year term concluded previously.
