States To Experience Three-Day Thundery, Cloudy Weather From Wednesday September 9 [FULL LIST]

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has predicted three days of cloudy and thundery weather conditions across various parts of the country running from Wednesday, September 9, through Friday, September 11, 2026.

In its official weather outlook released in Abuja, NiMet forecast morning patches of clouds with light rains and thunderstorms in parts of Taraba and Kebbi states on Wednesday.

By Wednesday afternoon and evening, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected across Taraba, Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano, and Kaduna states.

For the North-Central region, morning thunderstorms accompanied by light rains are expected over parts of Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory before spreading across most parts of the region later in the day.

The agency predicted a cloudy atmosphere over the southern region on Wednesday, with morning rains expected over Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom states.

On Thursday, morning thunderstorms with light rains are expected over Jigawa, Kano, Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, and Kaduna states, followed by moderate rains over Adamawa and Taraba later in the day.

The central states will see sunny skies with patches of clouds alongside morning thunderstorms in parts of the FCT, Nasarawa, Plateau, Niger, and Benue states.

Southern states on Thursday will experience morning light rains over Ondo, Ogun, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states, leading into continuous rainfall later in the afternoon.

NiMet explicitly raised a high-risk warning for potential flash flooding across low-lying areas in Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states during the forecast period.

By Friday, morning thunderstorms are expected over Taraba and Adamawa, extending by afternoon across Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and the central states.

The agency warned that strong winds may precede the downpours, advising motorists to avoid driving under heavy rain, stay clear of tall trees, and disconnect electrical appliances.

Addressing emergency protocols and safety, NiMet stated: “The states with the possibility of flash floods should activate the emergency response system immediately.”

Cautioning the aviation sector and general public, the agency added: “Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning of their operations.”
