Candidates who sat for the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO) can now check their results online following the official release of the performance metrics.

NECO released the 2026 SSCE results on Thursday, revealing that 1,371,992 candidates sat for the national exam out of the 1,378,048 who successfully registered across Nigeria.

According to the council’s official statistics, 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 per cent, secured at least five credits, including compulsory English Language and Mathematics.

Furthermore, 1,126,118 candidates, representing 84.70 per cent, obtained five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathematics.

Candidates who wish to check their performance can easily access their grades on the web by following this simple step-by-step procedure:

1. Visit the NECO result portal: Open a browser on a phone or computer and navigate to the official NECO result-checking web address, results.neco.gov.ng.
2. Select the examination year: Once the page loads, select 2026 as the examination year and choose the appropriate examination type (such as SSCE Internal) depending on the session sat for.
3. Enter the result-checking token: Input a valid NECO Result Checking Token in the designated field. Candidates without a token can purchase one directly through the payment gateway provided on the official portal.
4. Enter the registration number: Carefully type the assigned NECO registration number into the required field and double-check for any typos.

Meanwhile, NECO confirmed a notable drop in academic dishonesty, recording 1,496 malpractice cases in 2026 compared to 3,878 in 2025. NECO Registrar, Prof Dantani Wushishi, linked the decline to improved monitoring and the progressive adoption of computer-based testing measures.
