2027: Wike Gives Condition To Resign As Minister

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will step down from his cabinet post if President Bola Tinubu fails to win both the FCT and Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during an interactive session with leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja, Wike explained that his continued service as a cabinet minister remains tied directly to producing concrete electoral results for the President in his key political strongholds.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the Minister, Wike committed to a strict timeline for his pledge. He stated that if the ruling party suffers a defeat in the FCT and Rivers State during the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027, he will formally step down the following day.

“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here,” Wike said, stressing that his political role requires clear victory at the polls.

“If I lose FCT, I’m not supposed to be FCT Minister. By January 17, 2027, I will announce my resignation as FCT Minister should the President lose in Rivers State and the FCT,” he added.

Outlining his strategic roadmap for the territory, the Minister disclosed that his team is assembling a broad multi-party coalition aimed at securing victories across all elective positions in the FCT.
