The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday nullified the nomination of Governor Hope Uzodimma as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Imo West Senatorial District election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
Delivering judgment in the suit, Justice Obiora Egwuatu held that evidence presented before the court demonstrated that Governor Uzodimma did not emerge as the legitimate winner of the APC primary election conducted in the senatorial district on May 18, which was officially monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The court ruled that former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, secured the highest number of valid votes cast during the primary exercise and was the rightful candidate to be nominated by the party hierarchy.
Consequently, Justice Egwuatu directed INEC to immediately recognize Senator Okorocha and publish his name as the authentic flagbearer of the APC for the upcoming senatorial contest.
The court also granted a perpetual injunction restraining Governor Uzodimma from parading or presenting himself as the APC candidate for the senatorial election.
