The Old Bende Young Professionals have rallied in support of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, following his recent comment predicting that Gov. Alex Otti would be the last Labour Party Governor of Abia State.
In a widely circulated video, Kalu forecasted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would win Abia in 2027 and suggested that Otti consider joining the ruling national party.

Rep. Obi Aguocha, who represents the Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency, strongly criticized Kalu’s remarks, accusing him of disparaging the Governor.
Aguocha, a Labour Party lawmaker, declared that there would be no vacancy in the Abia Government House in 2027 and even suggested that Kalu’s seat might be declared vacant.
He cautioned Kalu against making “boastful remarks” and advised him to focus on advancing the interests of the South East rather than making predictions.
In a prompt rebuttal, the Old Bende Young Professionals defended Kalu, criticizing Aguocha for his criticism.
In a forceful statement signed by President Chima Ogbonnaya, Vice President Francis Ezeh, and Secretary Chief Dike Chidozie, the group argued that Kalu should not be condemned for expressing his opinions and offering advice about the 2027 elections.
They urged Aguocha to mind his own business and refrain from acting as Otti’s spokesperson.
